Thank you to the Pope family for raising funds towards the Transplant Games, donations have reached £1,600 !!!

Jack will be taking part in his third British Transplant Games in August – this year held in Oxford, and so is raising money for the wonderful Alder Hey Children’s Kidney Fund who enable the Alder Hey Team to take part.

Adults and children from different hospitals throughout the UK take part in the Transplant Games to raise awareness of the importance of organ donation and it is a fantastic atmosphere full of inspirational people.

Alder Hey Renal Team have been amazing – we couldn’t have asked for a better team to have been looking after Jack!

For those that don’t know Jack’s story – he has been through a lot in his 6 years, despite seeming like a normal 6 year old.

When he was a few days old, we were told that Jack only had one working kidney, which was only working at about 15% and that he would need a life-saving kidney transplant as soon as he was big enough. The 3 years that followed comprised of regular hospital visits, blood tests, admissions, medicines, injections, feeding through a gastrostomy tube and a couple of operations.

Jack was very fortunate to avoid dialysis and when he was just over 3 years old, he received his mum, Anna’s kidney, which he calls Ace! He still has to have twice daily medication, lots of fluids and regular hospital visits, but his new kidney has been life changing for him.

Jack gets more tired than your average 6 year old so fitting in 31 miles in a month around school is a big challenge for him – well done Jack!!
